THE COMPETENCIES
The University has identified the competencies as skills and understandings it expects APU graduates as educated persons to have developed. They are not ones that are necessarily developed in any particular class, but rather by formal and experiential learning of a variety of sorts.
The University sets minimum levels of proficiency in the General University Requirements. You are expected to set additional personal goals and are encouraged to demonstrate the degree to which you feel you surpass the minimum requirements, as seems desirable for the fulfillment of personal and educational goals.
The competencies include General University Competencies (GUR) and Major Area Competencies. The GUR are included in this section and in Criteria for Evaluating the Skills and Understandings. Each department has developed an additional list of competencies it expects from its majors. You will need to obtain supplemental handouts from the major department to address these major area competencies.
